Sound City

"Why can't it always be this easy?"

Filmology Rating: 3 out of 4

I’ve wanted to see this movie since it was released, and am sad I waited this long, but it was definitely worth the wait!  Sound City covers the history of the Sound City recording studio, a popular recording studio that stayed true to their analog roots even during the digital revolution.  The movie is directed by and stars Dave Grohl, the former drummer for Nirvana, and current lead guitarist and singer for The Foo Fighters.  Grohl also brought in other music professionals, including Paul McCartney, Barry Manilow, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, and Rick Springfield, who had ties to Sound City.  Grohl is absolutely dedicated to this project, and it shows in how well the movie is put together and the wide scope of the studio it covers.  This is definitely a must-see for anyone who considers themselves a music lover or an aspiring musician.

Warm Bodies

"Say something human. Say something human."

Filmology Rating: 2.5 out of 4

I really enjoyed this movie, even though I was thoroughly against seeing it in the first place.  Warm Bodies takes us on a pleasant Romeo and Juliet-inspired zombie apocalypse jaunt.  Nicholas Hoult takes the lead as R, a zombie with feelings, while Teresa Palmer is Julie, daughter of the military leader hunting zombies.  Obviously this is going to cause some tension in this teen-targeted romcom, piloting our plot.  My biggest issue with the film was that the CGI was poorly done.  The dialogue in the movie made me laugh, the plot was predictable but adorable, and the acting was decent.

Texas Chainsaw

Texas Chainsaw

I first saw Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2010 and I found it to be one of the most terrifying experiences I have ever had while watching a movie.  The rawness of the acting and the effects made the film always captivating and horrifying.  The film surprisingly has little gore and relies more on the creepy family dynamic that Leatherface and his family have.  Just thinking about the dinner scene now sends shivers down my spine.  So I was intrigued about a new film continuing the story of Leatherface in the same continuity as the original film.
